South Dakota flag+ South Dakota - August 3–12: Please restrict offender travel to the Black Hills area including cities of Sturgis, Lead, Deadwood, Spearfish, Rapid City, Wall, Kadoka, Belle Fourche, Hot Springs, Custer, Hill City, Edgemont, Newell, and all campgrounds in the Black Hills area during the 78th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Wyoming flag+ Wyoming - August 3–12: Please restrict offenders’ travel to, or through, Wyoming to attend the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Wisconsin flag+ Wisconsin - August 29–September 3: Please restrict offender travel to the Milwaukee, WI area during the Harley-Davidson 115th Anniversary Celebration.

New Jersey flag+ New Jersey - September 5–9: Please restrict offender travel to the Atlantic City, NJ area during the annual Miss America Pageant.

New Jersey flag+ New Jersey - September 6–9: Please restrict offender travel to the Wildwood, NJ area during the annual Roar to the Shore Motorcycle Rally.

New Mexico flag+ New Mexico - September 12–16: Please restrict offender travel to the Mescalero area for the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally.

+ State Updates +

Alaska flag + Alaska - Effective August 1, the Acting Deputy Compact Administrator is Lorna Colver, filling in for the recently retired Kathee Luth. Ms. Colver’s contact information is in the Interstate Compact Office Directory.

Colorado flag + Colorado - Effective August 8, Colorado will be required to notify probationers of their voting rights, in writing. This statute applies to probationers currently on probation and sentenced to probation on, or after, August 8. Colorado will be requesting state’s assistance with providing this notification and states may start receiving assistant requests through Compact Action Requests in ICOTS. Also, any incoming probationers will also receive this notification.

Hawaii flag + Hawaii - The long-standing offender travel restriction request to the island of Hawai’i, because of the Kilauea Volcano eruptions and earthquakes, has been lifted.

Maine flag + Maine - Interstate Compact Commissioner, Scott McCaffery, is stepping down after 7 years of serving the Interstate Commission. McCaffery was a current member of the Commission’s Training Committee.

Maryland flag + Maryland - The Interstate Compact Office was without internet service all day Wednesday and Thursday.

Pennsylvania flag + Pennsylvania - Probation offender assignments have been adjusted to the following:
  • Judith Cupernall, Probation: A–H
  • Michael Rivera, Probation: I–Q
  • Karen Eyster, Probation: R–Z

+ Compact Office Calendar - Please be aware of closures, shortened hours of operation, or the possibility of limited staff due to inclement weather, trainings, and state/national holidays.

+ Committee and Region Updates +

+ There were no Commission region or committee meetings this week so let’s preview the first 3, of 7, meetings currently scheduled for August:

The Midwest Region DCAs meet on Tuesday, August 7 at 2:00pm ET and plan to discuss compliance audit preparedness, the address on the offender application, DCA newsletter ideas, as well as the DCA Training Institute and 2 rule amendment proposals. Be sure to log in and attend.

The Rules Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, August 8 at 2:00pm ET and plan to discuss the definition of sex offender, the victims notification rule, the offender application, and rule proposals from the West Region. Check it out.

The final meeting of the week, 2:00pm ET on Thursday, August 9, is booked for the Training Committee. They are slated to continue planning an awesome DCA Training Institute and discuss PC Hearings. Don't miss it.

Reminder - New Jersey Probation now charges a $32 per month/per device electronic monitoring fee along with:
  • Strict prohibition from possession and use of Apple devices (MAC and iOS)
  • Zero-tolerance policy for violations of New Jersey’s Internet conditions/Internet use-restriction policy

2018 Annual Business Meeting Reminder - Registration for the Annual Business Meeting is open. The 17th annual gathering of Commission members and esteemed speakers and guests takes place October 1–3 in Orlando at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Disney Springs Resort. Opening the ABM will be the DCA Training Institute. Check out the agenda.

Reminder - Put your knowledge of ICAOS rules to the test and see if you can achieve top score. Answer 20 questions covering eligibility, the transfer process, supervision, and retaking/closing supervision. Participation is anonymous and results are not recorded.
